In "Songs We Sing", we will take a deeper look at the hymns and songs we sing at Incarnation to make our worship on Sunday more meaningful.
In this installment of Songs We Sing, we look at Matt Maher's arrangement of the Gloria. We aim to sing this portion of the Liturgy at our next gathering October 21.The Gloria is a short hymn of praise to the Trinity. Its opening verse is based on the song of the angels to the shepherds at the time of Jesus' birth, as reported in Lk 2:14.
Maher wrote this arrangement in 2011 as part of his "Mass of Communion" project.
Lyrics:
Glo——————ry to God in the hi——gh——est
And on earth peace to people of good will
We praise you, We bless you
We adore you, We glorify you
We give you thanks for your great glory
Lord God heavenly King, O God almighty Father
Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son
Lord God Lamb of God, Son of the Father
You take away the sins of the world, Have mer -- cy on us
You take away the sins of the world, Receive our prayer
You are seated at the right hand of the Father, Have mercy on us
For you alone are the Holy One, You alone are the Lord
You alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ
With the Holy Spirit, In the glory of God the Father
A --men A---men, A---men A---men, A –men A---men Amen
